EKC Ashford College celebrates GCSE and Level 2 Results Day success
Students have been celebrating today after receiving their GCSE and Level 2 results, marking the culmination of months of hard work and determination.
The atmosphere on campus was full of excitement as learners collected their grades, many achieving results that will propel them to the next step in their education or career.
For some, this means progressing to higher-level courses here at EKC Ashford College, while others are preparing to begin Apprenticeships or move into employment.
We caught up with some of our successful students to hear their thoughts and what they’re off to do next.
Bielka studied GCSE Mathas at College and achieved a Grade 8 – a huge achievement as she was the only student to complete the higher tier paper.
“I am so happy because I expected to get a Grade 7, so I’m so happy with the 8,” she said.
“I am so proud of myself because I had to put in a lot of effort myself. I had help from my tutor Lucy too, which was really good.
“My experience was amazing. I started in November, so a bit later, but the environment was amazing.
In September, Bielka will start the Access to HE: Science course at EKC Ashford College as well as her GCSE English. She is then hoping to progress to university.
Jacob and Isaac studied Level 2 Electrical at College, both achieving a Merit.
Jacob is set to do the Level 3 Electrical course in September, while Isaac is hoping to begin an Apprenticeship in the trade.
“It’s been fun and way better than school,” Jacob said.
Isaac added: “Our tutor Steve has been great.
“It’s a bit nerve-wracking starting an apprenticeship, but I feel the College has helped prepare me in every way – it’s got me through the first year, given me a basic idea of what to do so, it’s good.”
Arti, Liz and Helen are adult learners who studied their GCSE Maths. They were all celebrating after finding out they had passed. Liz and Helen achieved a Grade 5 while Arti got a Grade 4.
“We were quietly confident because the course was great and the lecturer was so supportive,” Liz said.
“I never did my Maths and English when I was a kid, so for me it’s just helping me to understand things that I might not understand now.
“We’ve also formed such a great friendship group.”
When asked what advice they would give to other adults looking to come back to College, they said not to let anything stop you, go for it and enjoy it.
“It is going to be hard, but it’s worth it,” Arti said.
“We’re all hoping to do our GCSE English now.”
Helen added: “I’ve actually really enjoyed learning again.”
