Meet Diaz-Destiny: Building her future in Beauty

For Beauty student Diaz-Destiny, College has given her more than practical skills. It has helped her build confidence, discover her passion for Beauty and take the first steps towards her dream of opening her own salon. 

Now studying Level 3 Beauty, Diaz-Destiny has developed a wide range of skills, including electrical facials, hot stone massage and body massage. She also studies nails in the evening, giving her even more treatments to add to her growing skill set. 

Building confidence at college 

Diaz-Destiny says her time at College has helped her grow in confidence and meet new people. 

“The environment is supportive. There are lots of opportunities to meet people from different courses,” she said. 

“It isn’t cliquey and everyone mixes together, which makes it much easier to socialise and feel part of the College community.” 

She has also benefited from one-to-one support throughout her studies. While she enjoys the practical side of Beauty, she found some of the theory more challenging. Support from her mentors and the E Hub helped her overcome those challenges and successfully complete her Level 2 qualification. 

She said: “Sarah and Annie have been amazing throughout my time here. I honestly don’t know what I would have done without their help.” 

Taking her skills beyond the classroom 

Diaz-Destiny has made the most of opportunities to develop skills outside her course, too. 

As a Student Officer, she helps organise College events, building valuable experience in teamwork, planning and organisation. 

She also took part in a two-week trip to Thailand, where she learned Thai massage, nail art, facials and how to make herbal massage balls using natural ingredients. 

Alongside learning new treatments, she explored Thai culture, visiting waterfalls, kayaking, taking a boat trip and exploring a floating market. 

“I’ve been able to bring some of the massage techniques I learned back and use them in my own treatments,” she added.  

Looking ahead to her own salon 

Diaz-Destiny already has a clear vision for her future. 

Her first goal is to work as a mobile beauty therapist, building experience and a client base. She then hopes to create a beauty room at home before eventually opening her own salon. 

She has already started planning, designing her own logo and developing ideas for her branding and marketing. 

With a growing range of practical skills, valuable industry experience and a clear ambition for the future, Diaz-Destiny is well on her way to turning her passion

“It’s been an amazing experience and I’m excited about where it can take me next,” she said.
