Course overview

Access to Higher Education (HE) courses are nationally recognised programmes of study designed to support adults (aged 19+) who have few qualifications or are changing career and don’t have the relevant entry criteria, but who are aspiring to study at university.

Course information

This is a one-year course that aims to prepare students for university-level academic study.

During the course, students will find out the answers to questions such as:

  • Why do we forget things?
  • How important are our childhood experiences?
  • What causes mental illness?
  • How does stress affect our health?
  • Can criminals be reformed?

Social Science units to be covered include:

  • Youth Justice
  • Trends in Criminology
  • Introduction into Social Work
  • Theories of Learning and Safeguarding
