Level 3 Diploma in Art and Design

To study at Level 3, you will need an average entry score of 5.0 from your best 6 GCSE subjects, ideally including English and Maths.

You will also be required to show a portfolio of work when you apply. In instances where little or no portfolio and/or performance experience is shown, we will guide you towards the best course to help you build your portfolio and develop the skills and knowledge you need to succeed at higher levels.

This study programme is designed to help you move quickly toward advanced jobs, higher education, or apprenticeship opportunities if you know what you want to do next and meet the entry requirements needed for success.

You’ll build a strong and varied portfolio throughout the course, developing your work across practical projects, sketchbooks and creative assignments. Each project gives you the chance to experiment, refine your ideas and produce work that reflects professional standards.

At the end of each year, you’ll complete a final project, giving you the opportunity to take creative control, develop your personal style and create a body of work that showcases your skills and prepares you for your next step.

By the end of your course, you’ll be ready to take your next step into the creative industries or continue your studies.

You can progress onto higher education, apprenticeships or specialist creative courses, using the portfolio you’ve built to stand out and secure your place in a competitive and exciting industry.

Many of our Level 3 learners have gone on to study or work within the creative sector.

You will have the chance to take part in lots of exciting trips and projects. From visiting museums, art exhibitions and art studios, there’s always opportunities for you to continue learning outside of the classroom.

Gain behind-the-scenes knowledge of how professional artists work as you take part in exciting industry trips and projects throughout the year. You’ll have the opportunity to work collaboratively with local creatives as you build confidence and your own artistic style. And gain a front row seat to a range of exciting expert talks, where you will meet people from the industry who can help you grow your skillset and your network.

Watch on with pride as your work is displayed across a variety of exhibitions and art shows throughout the year, including the ever-expanding and highly anticipated end-of-year art show, and learn how to follow client briefs as you collaborate with places like Ashford Internation Station to produce large-scale artwork.

You will also be encouraged to show off your design talents during exciting skills competitions where you’re artwork will be seen and judged by top industry professionals.

Additional Work Experience projects will be supported by our Industry Liaison Officer, who will find exciting opportunities that are right for you and your interests.

Upon enrolment, you may be advised to study this qualification over two or three years. This will be thoroughly discussed at interview to ensure that you are on the most appropriate programme of study.

A positive recommendation or reference from your school/tutor may also be needed for you to be eligible for this course.
