With little or no portfolio and/or performance experience you will be advised to study on the most appropriate route to build your distinctive portfolio and gain skills and knowledge to ensure success at higher levels of study.

All assessment is completed through coursework. You’ll complete a series of
creative projects across the year, developing your skills while meeting UAL
qualification criteria.

There are no written exams. Instead, you’ll produce practical outcomes,
research, experiments, reflections and a final major project.

This pathway prepares you for progression to Year 2 of the Level 3 Diploma in
Music Performance and Production, where you’ll undertake more advanced
specialisms and a final portfolio-driven major project.

This pathway then prepares you for:

• University pathways in Music Production or Performance, Sound Engineering,
Audio Post-Production, Sound for Film & Gaming, Music Business and DJing

• Industry and freelance roles such as Performer, DJ, Live Sound Engineer,
Producer, Songwriter, Studio Technician and Sound Designer

We recommend that students have:

• A Pair of Wired Headphones

• A portable hard drive or large USB for project storage

• Optional instruments or performance equipment

• Occasional contribution to trips or events

Having access to an Apple Mac is beneficial but not requried. All essential
College equipment, including the studio and Mac suites, is provided.

Dedicated Work Experience opportunities are supported by our Industry Liaison
Officer, who finds opportunities that are right for you. These give you key
experiences ready for your future.

Throughout your studies, you will also take part in a variety on internal and
external events, such as taking part in local music festivals in behind the
scenes roles, and recording the college podcast.

We also benefit our community by taking part in social action projects which
help with development and skill progression, as well as making a difference
locally.

Trips and enrichment activities may include:

• Studio and venue tours

• Live sound workshops

• Local gigs and industry events

• Music technology shows and exhibitions

• Guest speaker sessions with producers, engineers and artists

Trips vary each year based on availability and student interests.

At interview, you will be required to complete a music task to show us your
practical and creative skills. This helps us to determine the right course for
you.

A positive recommendation or reference from your school/tutor will be needed
for you to be eligible for this course.

You’ll be taught by experienced industry practitioners and have access to our
professional recording studio and computer suites.

Collaboration is an element of the course. You’ll work with Media students on
projects, giving you real-world experience and a strong creative network. If you
want to focus on music production, engineering or creative audio while
keeping performance opportunities in your toolkit, this course is an ideal fit.
