Chunying Wong, a determined Accounting student at EKC Ashford College, has taken a major step forward in her career goals after being awarded an AAT Bursary.
This financial support from AAT, the Association of Accounting Technicians, has enabled Chunying to continue her studies, advancing to the AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accounting after completing Level 2.
Receiving the bursary from the world’s leading professional body for accounting technicians has been life-changing for Chunying, who balances her studies with part-time work and raising her children.
She said: “I applied online for the bursary, with my tutor Amin’s help. When I found out I had been awarded it, I was so happy. It has given me another chance to pursue my qualification. Without it, I might have missed the opportunity to follow something I truly enjoy.”
The bursary has enabled Chunying to continue her education. She credits this support with allowing her to focus entirely on her studies and achieve her potential. She said: “It has allowed me to stay committed to the course and work toward my dream of becoming a qualified Accountant.”
Originally from China, she returned to education to transform her lifestyle and set an example for her children. “I want to be a good role model for my kids, showing them that their mum can work hard and study hard,” she said.
While Chunying has faced unique challenges, as English is her second language, she has excelled in her coursework thanks to her determination and the support of her tutor, Amin.
She said: “He is always willing to help with anything I find difficult, making sure I understand and feel confident in what I’m learning.”
“My goal is to get work experience and then progress to AAT Level 4. I want to complete the full course and build a career in Accounting.”
Reflecting on her journey, Chunying feels that studying at EKC Ashford College has been life-changing and that her education has had a huge impact. “College has not only improved my studies but also my mental and physical health. I’ve gained so much knowledge, confidence, and skills that I can carry into my future career.”
Her advice to others considering further education is simple: “Don’t worry about starting to learn again —it’s absolutely worth it. Keep improving yourself, learn new skills, and never give up.”
