EKC Ashford College students kick off the year at Freshers Fair

EKC Ashford College students filled the campus today for the annual Freshers Fair, as new and returning students came together to start the new academic year.

The College was full of energy this week as students headed to the annual Freshers Fair, discovering the wide range of support, opportunities, and activities available to them throughout their time at College.

From fun activities and free treats to useful advice and opportunities to connect with local organisations, there was plenty for students to explore.

A fantastic selection of stalls filled the campus, offering something for everyone. Students could access everything from students offers with Pass and A-Class Driving Schools, and Anytime Fitness, to free bike security markings with the Estates team.

Alongside fun activities like human foosball, a bike balance challenge and free ice creams, the event gave students the chance to find out more about the support available to them at College and within the wider community, including Beech House, NHS Talking Therapies, Lake House Kent Wellbeing and Rising Sun. It was a great opportunity to ask questions, discover new services and learn about ways to get involved beyond the classroom.

Our Student Experience Officer, Megan Waller, was also on hand throughout the event and highlighted the value of the Freshers’ Fair for students.

Megan said: ‘Freshers is a chance for students to discover new opportunities, meet new people, and find out what’s happening in the local community. College is about gaining a qualification, but it’s also about building confidence, making connections, and creating experiences that help you grow both personally and professionally. Freshers is the perfect place to start that journey.’

The Freshers’ Fair also brought together a range of local businesses, charities and community organisations, including the Green Party, Ashford Volunteer Centre, Kent Refugee Action Network (Kran), and RSPCA and Ashford Garden Cattery. Each organisation offered something valuable for our students, whether that was advice and support, information about local services or opportunities to get involved and make a difference within the community.

Ace, who currently studies Level 3 Creative Media, enjoyed exploring the different stalls and taking part in the activities. They said: ‘Freshers is a great opportunity to see and talk to new people. This is my second year so it’s nice introducing myself to new people and making sure they’re happy and comfortable around College.’
