Going back to learning as an adult may seem daunting, but there are so many great reasons to do it for yourself and your future.
Here are five reasons why you should consider studying an adult course at EKC Ashford College:
Progress in your career
It’s never too late to pursue a new passion or career path. Many successful career changes happen later in life and your previous work experience can often be applied in new and exciting ways in a different field. Retraining can lead to increased job satisfaction and potentially higher earnings.
Sandesh joined the College on a Level 1 course, and is now currently studying AAT Level 3 Accounting. His progression on our courses has enabled him to look forward to a career in Finance.
He told us: “My goal is to continue building my skills and knowledge. I hope to find a job in accounting soon, not only to put my qualifications to use but also to gain practical, real-world experience. From there, I aim to progress to AAT Level 4 and complete the full course.
“I hope to take everything I’ve learned and use it to build a successful career in accounting. This experience has shown me that with the right resources and support, it’s never too late to achieve your goals.”
Alternatively, continuing Professional Development (CPD) is important so that you can stay up-to-date in your industry/sector. Many employers will be looking for individuals with advanced knowledge and skills for higher roles.
We offer specialised courses in areas such as Engineering, Early Years, Health and Social Care and more, so that you can further your career.
Learn something new
We offer a variety of flexible options, so whether you decide to complete a full-time course (coming to College two/three days a week), or a part-time course (just one or two lessons a week), you will still have plenty of time for family life and any jobs you already have.
Adult learning does not have to be for a professional reason either! You can keep your brain active and learn a new skill or specialism. For those interested in picking up a new hobby and want to try something new, our courses in Art and Design, such as Ceramics, could be perfect for you!
Education Doesn’t Always Have to Cost
Whilst education is an investment, there are many ways to make it affordable. Advanced Learner Loans and Bursaries are available and depending on your household income and previous educational qualifications, some of our courses can even be FREE.
To find out more about this, contact the College Services team about eligibility.
Meet new people
Having a mix of ages and experiences on your course can enrich the learning environment for everyone. Regardless of age, everyone on the course will have a common interest – you’ve all chosen to study your chosen subject.
You might also be surprised to find other adult learners on your course. Our full-time options are open to those aged 19+ as well, meaning you always can study the subject area you’re interested in.
On our adult courses, you’ll study alongside like-minded learners who are there for the same reasons you are.
Lucy, studying the Level 3 in Women’s Hairdressing, really enjoys the environment in College, saying: “At first I was a little apprehensive to come back to college and be surrounded by teenagers, but I’m in a group of other mature students so we’re all on the same wave length and get on really well. It also helps that our tutor is fantastic.”
Nothing to Hold you Back
There’s no need to be concerned about your past qualifications, experience, or whether you achieved the right grades at School. We offer a variety of courses at different levels, and our team can find the perfect one to meet your needs.
This also includes our specially designed Access to HE courses, aimed at adults who wish to progress onto University.
So whether you are ready to invest in yourself, simply want to find a course to improve your wellbeing and confidence, we have something that’ll be perfect for you.
