On Wednesday 11 September, EKC Ashford College hosted an exciting Freshers’ Fayre that brought together students for a day of fun and activities. Held in the atrium and the green spaces, the event was a success, creating a lively atmosphere for new and returning students to enjoy.
The Freshers’ Fayre featured a variety of engaging activities and competitions. Students competed to win a £40 voucher for Ashford Designer Outlet, which they could grab by holding the record in a Basketball Hoop shoot competition, or a bike balancing competition.
Joanna Brown, Assistant Principal of EKC Ashford College, said: “”The Freshers’ Fayre is one of the biggest events of the Autumn term and it’s wonderful to see all the new and returning students mingle, meet organisations from the community and find out more about what they can get up to at College this year.”
A range of clubs and societies were on hand, offering learners the opportunity to get involved in various campus activities. Local businesses and charities set up stalls, providing valuable information and advice for students, ranging from wellbeing services to local organisations. This included Ashford Pride, who were signing up learners for volunteering opportunities later in the year.
As the weather heated up around lunchtime, students could cool off with an ice cream and a slice of pizza outside the campus.
Andrew Stiffell, Students’ Union President said: “It’s fantastic to get to meet all the new students and tell them more about the Students’ Union, and hopefully see them get involved with trips and activities later in the year.
“It’s very busy and very exciting, and such a good opportunity for students to get to know and meet new people. It gives them a break from lessons to grab some ice cream or pizza and see new faces outside of their course.”
The fun didn’t stop there. Local club, Cameo, opened their doors exclusively to EKC Ashford College students and threw a huge party including music and activities for learners to enjoy in the evening.
We would like to extend a huge thank you to the local organisations who gave up their time to come and celebrate the start of a new academic year with us.
