Meet your Student Experience Officer at EKC Ashford College

8 October 2025
Megan is the Student Experience Officer at EKC Ashford College and is here to ensure your College life is as fun as possible.

Megan is our Student Experience Officer here at EKC Ashford College. She is here to make your College experience full of fun events, trips and enrichment opportunities so that you make great memories whilst you study.

She also oversees the Students’ Union, which you can become involved with.

We sat down with Megan to find out a little bit more about her and what she gets up to in her role.

EKC Ashford College Student Experience Officer

How did you become the College’s Student Experience Officer?

I graduated from university during the COVID-19 pandemic, a time when finding new employment was especially challenging. I had six years of retail experience and a degree in social science, but I hadn’t considered a career in education, until I came across the job description and it really resonated with me.

Now that I’m in the role, I honestly can’t imagine a job that suits me better. It’s a great reminder that sometimes the best opportunities are the ones you never expected.

What’s your favourite part of the role?

What I love most is how our enrichment provision transforms each year based on the students’ interests. It allows me to tailor the experience to each cohort, making it a constantly evolving program that just keeps growing.

What’s something you’re most proud of doing in your role?

One of the things I’m most proud of is working with a former Students’ Union President to launch the ‘Celebration of Culture’ event.

It’s now a yearly tradition, and it’s great to see other Colleges getting involved too.

The event celebrates diversity, encourages respect and understanding, and gives students a chance to explore cultures and traditions beyond their own.

We’re lucky to have the support of so many local organisations and community groups who help make it a vibrant, joyful, and lively occasion.

What have you got planned over the next year?

We’ve got some familiar favourites returning for enrichment this year, including our football team, karaoke sessions, and exciting trips to Winter Wonderland and Thorpe Park Fright Night.

We’re also introducing new sports, like netball and padel, in addition to more live music events and extra activities.

The programme will continue to grow throughout the year, so don’t forget to check ‘Your Student Communications Hub’ regularly to stay up to date with what’s happening.

How does someone get involved with the Students’ Union?

To get involved, all you need to do is come and talk to us or see us at events.

There are a variety of roles available, including Mental Health Officer, Equality and Diversity Officer, Events Officer, and Students’ Union Volunteers who help run events and activities throughout the year.

You’re also welcome to join any of our monthly Students’ Union meetings to share your ideas and have your voice heard.

Do you have any advice for new students?

My advice would be to make the most of the opportunities that are given to you.

At College, we’ve been able to offer some incredible experiences, from volunteering with inspiring charities and collaborating with leading industry names, to work placements in Spain and leadership training in Bali.

To stay in the loop, make sure your notifications are turned on and check ‘Your Student Communications Hub’ on Teams regularly so you don’t miss out.

Where can students find you in College?

You can find me or a member of the Students’ Union in the Student Lounge, which is located on the ground floor, just off the atrium.

You can also send me a message on teams or email the Student Union address – ashfordstudentunion@ekcgroup.ac.uk
