Many adults consider furthering their education but hesitate due to common misconceptions about College and what they could achieve.
Today, let’s bust some myths and show you why it’s never too late to learn and grow at EKC Ashford College.
“I’m too old to study at College – isn’t it only for 16-year-olds?”
EKC Ashford College has a diverse student population, with learners of all ages across subject areas and courses.
Your life experience can give you an advantage in understanding and applying new concepts, with your existing practical experiences something that is sought after in all industries.

She studied our Level 2 Supporting Teaching and Learning course after being encouraged by her employer to take part in career development opportunities. Alongside her colleagues who also studied at EKC Ashford College, she is now helping to teach the next generation vital skills for their development.
She said: “Since I’ve started this course, I have a greater understanding of what goes into being a teaching assistant. The advice of my lecturer has been so beneficial and I can’t wait to support the children I work with further.”

“Can I afford to go back to education?”
Whilst education is an investment, there are many ways to make it affordable.
Advanced Learner Loans and Bursaries are available, and depending on your household income and previous educational qualifications, some of the courses can even be FREE.

“Will I fit in with the younger students at College?”
Having a mix of ages and experiences on your course can actually enrich the learning environment for everyone.
You might be surprised to find many other adult learners in your courses, with our full-time options open to those aged 19+ as well, meaning whatever you want to learn, there’s always an opportunity.

Your past doesn’t define your future academic success.
Many adult learners find they’re more motivated and focused when returning to education after a while, and College will look at recent work experience and overall life experience, not just past grades.
Support services like tutoring and academic skills workshops are available to help you succeed.

Many successful career changes happen later in life and your previous work experience can often be applied in new and exciting ways in a different field.
Retraining can lead to increased job satisfaction and potentially higher earnings.
