Example heEKC Ashford College are celebrating today (Thursday 22 August) as students collect GCSE and Level 2 results.
Many learners arrived early at the College to open their results, joined by their proud Lecturers and the College’s Support Team, who were ready to offer advice on next steps.
Success runs in the family this morning for Rhys Apps, and stepmother Jenna Apps. Rhys, who received a Merit in his Level 2 in Plumbing passed the year alongside achieving a 4 in his English and Maths GCSE. Step-Mum, Jenna, who decided to follow suit last September, coming to College to achieve that all-important GCSE in Mathematics so that she can study for a teaching degree at University.
Jenna said: “We didn’t revise together – but it’s great that we’ve both achieved separately and ready to move on to the next thing.”
Rhys will be continuing his studies with us at College next year as he takes on the next level of his Plumbing course.
Aspiring CGI Artist, Ethan Elbourne, opened his results to find he has passed his Level 2 ICT and is now ready to begin studying Level 3 Media at College next month.
He said: “Don’t be scared to make the leap and come to College. I’m so much less anxious, I’ve got good friends that I see everyday now, and I am much more sociable than I have ever been.”
In a show of great resilience and determination, Chandrika Narayanan, achieved a 4 in GCSE Mathematics, on her sixth attempt at the examination.
She said: “Just don’t give up and just keep trying. Take all the help you can get and believe in yourself every day. If you didn’t get the result you wanted, remember one piece of paper will never define you. Think about what you want and go out and get it. If you believe in yourself, you will do it.”
Chandrika is now studying a Bachelor’s Degree in Child Nursing at Canterbury Christ Church University.
Wegahta Zerom, who began studying ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) in 2020, has achieved a Grade 4 in GCSE Maths, and will now be exploring the world of Apprenticeships, as he starts his journey to become a qualified Electrician.
He gave advice to new students saying: “College has made such a difference. I started with a dream to become an Electrician and I can now do this. Just do what you’re passionate about, and it will pay off!”
Ready to take the next step, Oluwaseye Mobolaji opened up the brown envelope this morning to reveal a 5 in GCSE English and an outstanding 7 in GCSE Maths.
Hoping to become a Software Developer, he will be exploring T Levels that will get him on the right path this September.
He said: “Study hard – you will succeed. Take advantage of all the support on offer. It’s made me much more focused and the teachers here have been behind my journey all the way.”
