Choosing what to do after school isn’t always easy. For many students, it’s about finding a place where they feel comfortable, supported, and inspired to take their next steps. For Ruby, that place was EKC Ashford College.

Choosing what to do after school isn’t always easy. For many students, it’s about finding a place where they feel comfortable, supported, and inspired to take their next steps. For Ruby, that place was EKC Ashford College.

Currently studying Level 2 Business, Ruby is already building the skills, confidence, and direction she needs for her future, and her journey is a great example of how College can open new doors.

A Course with Endless Opportunities

Ruby was drawn to Business for its flexibility and the wide range of career paths it can lead to.

“I chose business because I’ve heard such good things about it, especially at EKC Ashford College. With a business qualification you can go into quite a lot of different things,” she explains.

From marketing and finance to management and beyond, studying Business gives students a strong foundation that can take them in many different directions. For Ruby, that variety made it the perfect choice.

A Place That Felt Right

Attending an Open Day played a big role in Ruby’s decision.

“When I went there for the open day it was really good and I felt really welcomed. I didn’t feel that same spark at any other college I visited.”

That sense of belonging is something many students experience at EKC Ashford College. From the moment you step on campus, it’s about finding the right environment to grow, learn, and succeed.

Learning Through Real Experiences

One of Ruby’s favourite parts of the course has been getting involved in projects and competitions.

“Preparing for competitions has been my favourite. We can all come together as a group, work on it, and then present it.”

These valuable experiences help students develop practical skills while building confidence, something that goes far beyond the classroom.

Building Skills for Life

Since starting College, Ruby has noticed a big difference in herself.

“I’ve learned more communication skills and how to work with people more than I did at school. I’ve also learned that it’s okay to be yourself.”

Developing confidence, teamwork, and communication are key parts of studying Business, helping students prepare not just for exams, but for real-world situations and future careers.

College Life vs School

For Ruby, the transition from school to College has been a positive one.

“At College you have a lot more freedom. You can have breaks, spend time with your friends, and it just feels so much better.”

With a more independent environment, students are encouraged to take responsibility for their learning while enjoying a more mature and relaxed atmosphere.

A Supportive Community

Making new friends and feeling part of a community is an important part of College life – and Ruby has found that at Ashford.

“Everyone is so much more mature… I’ve made some really good friends and everyone is easy to get along with.”

It’s this supportive environment that helps students settle in quickly and make the most of their experience.

Looking Ahead

Ruby already has clear ambitions for her future. After completing her Level 2 course, she’s planning to progress further.

“I’m thinking of doing another year or maybe two years and doing a T Level. After that, I want to go into forensic science.”

Her journey shows how studying Business can act as a stepping stone, giving students the qualifications and confidence to move onto advanced courses like the T Level in Business Management and Administration, an apprenticeship, or one of our other Level 3 courses.

Thinking About Your Next Step?

For anyone unsure about their next move, Ruby has simple advice:

“Give it a shot because it’s the best thing that I’ve done.”

Whether you’re considering a fresh start after school or looking for a course that opens up a range of opportunities, studying Business at EKC Ashford College could be the perfect place to begin.
