Students from EKC Ashford College having been taking part in community events throughout this week to help the community.

Elwick Virtual Recreation

Media students have been down to Elwick Virtual Recreation that runs an interactive Virtual Reality space also known as VRec. This has been a great experience for the students to use the skills they have learnt to create a TikTok to promote what they do at VRec. All of the students put forward their videos, with the best video to be selected to send to Virtual Recreation.  It is an exciting opportunity for the students to get their work out into the real world.

Andrew thought “It was great to go down to the Virtual Recreation centre as I had no idea this was here and was excited to create a promotional video from them. It was great to use what I have learnt about marketing and creating videos to create my TikTok.”

EKC Ashford College students ventured out into the community and interviewed Curtis Hylton, Ashford-based Artist. They interviewed Curtis to learn more about videoing and using professional sound equipment.

Amber found the event interesting saying: “It was a really unique experience where we got to use the cameras and sound equipment. It was really amazing to interview someone that is professional and world renowned.”

Early Years, Life Vac Fundraiser

For Community Week Early Years students are raising money to get a LifeVac for the College Community. A LifeVac is a non-powered, non-invasive, airway clearance device developed for resuscitating somebody with an airway obstruction.

Early Years student Millie explained, “We chose to raise money for a life vac for the College because we would like to support the family-operated business to save more lives.”

Sweet and Savoury treats bake sale for Poppy Legion

Level 2 Catering students made sweet and savoury treats for a bake sale to raise money for the Poppy Legion. These included sausage rolls, pasties, cakes, buns and muffins. We have worked closely with the British Legion and plan our Catering students will cook a veterans meal later on in the year.

Thomas a catering student said, “All of these are cooked by us, and all proceeds are going to be going to the Legion. This has been great for me to improve my pastry skills and do something good for the community.”

Art Exhibition and Sale for Dads Unlimited

Art students across the College have created artwork that symbolises their definition of fatherhood for an Art Exhibition and Sale to raise money for the charity Dads Unlimited. They have exhibited artwork in the College atrium for staff, students and guests to look at and buy. The charity supports the emotional needs of Fathers and their families.

Representatives from the charity came into College to pick out a piece of artwork for their Head Office.

It has been a great week at EKC Ashford College, and we can’t wait to do more with our local community.
