T Level Business Management and Administration student, Kacper, is currently working with Construction company, Bowmer and Kirkland and thriving in the workplace.
We caught up with him to find out about his time at College, and what he’s been up to during his work placement.

Why I Chose a T Level
I’d like to pursue a career within business and entrepreneurship. I decided to study a T Level in Business Management and Administration because it gives you the best of both worlds. We get to learn all the theory we’ll need and get practical experience during our work placements. It’s really helpful to have the opportunity to apply what we’ve learnt at College in a practical workplace setting.
My Work Placement Experience
I’m currently completing my work placement with Bowmer and Kirkland on a construction site for Chilmington Green Secondary School, a new net-zero carbon school set to open later this year. I work in the HR and Administration team, and being based in the site office gives me a great overview of the project. Watching the site’s progress week by week has been fascinating, and I’ve gained valuable insight into how large-scale projects are managed from an administrative perspective.

Skills I’ve Developed
One of the biggest improvements I’ve noticed in myself is my organisational skills. Managing my workload effectively and improving my time management has helped me prioritise tasks and work more efficiently.
Working with programmes like Excel has significantly boosted my confidence too. I’ve learned how to manage and organise paperwork, ensuring that all necessary documents are correctly filed and accessible. These skills might seem small, but they are essential in any business environment. I’ve also gained experience in using different software programs, which will benefit me in the future.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
At my placement, my main responsibilities include handling and organising paperwork, ensuring everything is correctly filed and recorded. This helps the company track essential documents for compliance and project management.
I also complete tasks assigned by my mentors, such as working with Excel spreadsheets, using Word for documentation, and managing digital and physical folders. These tasks have given me a solid foundation in administrative work, which will be useful in any future business role.

How This Experience Will Help My Future Career
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned from my placement is that theoretical knowledge isn’t everything. While learning in the classroom can give you a great foundation, actually experiencing a workplace setting has shown me how theory applies in real life. Learning about business concepts is important but applying them in a real-world context gives them meaning.
My work placement has equipped me with essential business skills, from managing paperwork to using professional software. These skills will be valuable in my future career.
The support from my mentors has also been invaluable. They’ve provided me with great advice and insights, helping me understand what it takes to succeed in a professional environment. The experience has also helped me build a strong professional network, which will be beneficial as I move forward in my career.

Advice for Future Learners
For students considering a T Level, my advice is not to worry too much if you don’t find a work placement right away. Sometimes, it takes time to find the right fit, but once you do, you’ll be able to complete your hours and gain meaningful experience. Choosing a placement where you feel comfortable and supported makes a big difference, as it helps you stay motivated and engaged in your learning.
