We caught up with your Students’ Union president, Andrew, to find out what’s being happening at College, and what you have to look forward to this term.
What we have been up to…
Kilo Sale
The Students’ Union (SU) organised a Kilo Sale to raise funds for the SU. A variety of clothing items, including dresses, shirts, and shoes were sold at the event. Staff and students could buy as many items as they wished, with pricing set at £2 per kilogram. The sale successfully raised a total of £36 for the SU.
Thank you for coming along, we hope you like your wardrobe refresh!

Football Tournament
Student footballers from across East Kent Colleges Group came together to compete in a tournament at Ramsgate FC. Organised by Darren, the Student Experience Officer at EKC Folkestone College. The six teams played their top players in the hope of taking home the tournament trophy. The students involved had a brilliant time playing the other Colleges.
SU Room Glow Up
Exciting news – the SU Room has had a makeover and is now officially the Student Lounge!
We’ve transformed the space with stylish new furniture and fresh décor to create a more comfortable, modern, and welcoming environment for everyone to enjoy. Look out for the new signage and greenery feature wall, along with new units that give the room a vibrant and updated feel. Plus, we’re working on showcasing student artwork to make the Lounge feel even more creative and personal.
We can’t wait for you to relax, unwind, and make the most of the new Student Lounge.

Marlowe Theatre Trip
We recently enjoyed a fantastic trip to the Marlowe Theatre to watch the award-winning musical, Dear Evan Hansen. The show follows the story of a socially anxious teenager who becomes entangled in a lie that spirals out of control.
This experience was not only a chance for students to enjoy a live theatre performance, but also an opportunity to reflect on the challenges many young people face today. It opened the door to meaningful conversations around mental health and emotional wellbeing in a relatable and engaging way.
A huge thank you to our Student Experience Officer, Megan, for organising such an impactful trip!
Celebration of Culture
The annual Celebration of Culture event took place recently. The event saw live performances, interactive activities and a variety of international food stations.
Events like this celebrate the diversity within our College community and create opportunities for students to learn about different cultures. By experiencing traditions, food, and performances from around the world, students can develop a greater appreciation for the backgrounds of their peers and build a stronger sense of unity and inclusion.

Ashford Mediation Service (AMS) and Kent Self Defence
We were thrilled to welcome AMS to College recently, where they delivered four dynamic sessions to our Student Representatives. During these workshops, students discovered the practice of meditation – learning not just the techniques, but the value behind them and how to use these skills to stay calm and in control during challenging situations.
We also had the incredible team from Kent Self Defence join us, empowering our students with hands-on training in self-defence. They gained practical skills, vital knowledge on safe and responsible techniques, and walked away with an official certificate to mark their achievement.

Events coming up…

Students’ Union members will have the opportunity to develop leadership skills while collaborating with Balinese partners and immersing themselves in daily life in Mas Village. Alongside their leadership work, participants will also have time to explore and experience the rich culture of Bali.
