On Friday 28 June, we held the EKC Ashford College Student Awards ceremony and masquerade ball to celebrate the achievements and hard work of our students throughout the year.
The event was held at pop-up arts and music venue Revelation, a stunning church in the heart of Ashford, with staff and students in attendance. The ceremony was hosted by Assistant Principal, Joanna Brown, and the awards were presented by curriculum staff members.
Awards were on offer for various categories with nominees chosen by curriculum departments. Categories included Pathway Winner for each of our subject areas, Achievement of the Year, Social Action Champion and the prestigious Principal Champion award.
Creative Media Production student, Chelsea Prior, who won the Media award for her strong work ethic, said: “I feel really privileged to have won because the whole class are amazing.
I think the course and tutors are great. My tutor, Richard, is one of the most influential people I know.
I have been supported with the creative process and it is really freeing. I have learnt how to make short films, music videos and documentaries, and everything else that media covers. In the future, I would love to be a music producer”.
Natalie Matiza was awarded the Engineering award after excelling academically in her exams and coursework, and tirelessly volunteering to help the Engineering team. She said: “It feels really good to have won. I was nervous at first as I didn’t think that I would win.
I enjoy my course as I get to use my hands and I can showcase myself in so many different ways. I used to be shy, but the course has helped me gain confidence and show me that I can do more than I thought.
I am hoping to progress onto a Level 3 course to help me to achieve my goal of working in aerospace engineering.”
The awards ceremony was followed by a masquerade ball with many students dressing to impress. Students and staff enjoyed tasty canapes made by our Catering department and were treated to music and entertainment, including performances from well-known magician Etienne Pradier and a DJ set.
Assistant Principal, Joanna Brown, said: “The student awards was a resounding success with around 150 attendees. The evening celebrated the huge diversity of students and achievements at EKC Ashford College as well as giving all students the opportunity to celebrate together.
Huge congratulations to all the winners and a big thank you to the Students’ Union for organising it and all of the staff for supporting the event.”
